Trauma Counselling in Vancouver
Trauma is not measured only by what happened. It can also be understood through what the experience left behind: feeling unsafe, disconnected, ashamed, watchful or pulled back into the past by reminders you did not choose. Trauma counselling in Vancouver at Dear Therapy begins with safety and with what life is like for you now.
Trauma counselling in Vancouver: safety before speed
In trauma counselling, you decide how much to share and when, Mandeep explains what she is suggesting and why, and you can pause or change direction at any point. You do not need to retell every detail of what happened to get support.
Early appointments may focus on what life is like now: sleep, reminders that set you off, relationships and what helps when you feel overwhelmed or shut down. That might include noticing the early signs that you are becoming distressed and practising ways to bring your attention back to the room you are in.
Trauma-informed care is not a specific trauma treatment
“Trauma-informed” describes how counselling is offered: with attention to safety, choice, collaboration and the ways trauma can affect a person. It is not the name of a particular trauma therapy. If you are looking for a specific, structured trauma treatment, ask about it on the free call so you can decide whether trauma counselling at Dear Therapy in Vancouver is right for you or whether another provider would suit you better.
When deeper work is appropriate
If and when you both agree it is appropriate, appointments may look at how the experience has shaped the way you see yourself, how you trust other people and how you protect yourself. The past does not go away. The aim is for it to have less say over how you live now.
What can sit alongside trauma
Trauma can sit alongside anxiety, low mood, grief or relationship difficulties. Meet Mandeep Virk, MA, RCC or ask whether Dear Therapy is the right fit. Much of this work happens within individual counselling.
